Angela E Phillips commented on Contact Us 2019-10-28 10:07:09 -0700My name is Angela E. Phillips & I posted my story quite sometime ago. I live in West Virginia & there is NO visitation law pending? It is too late for my Mom & I – she passed away 05/30/2018; but I would like to know what I can do or who I can contact to get this bill to the House in West Virginia? Sadly, I can’t stand the fact that this happens to so many families & in my case it was due to my brother’s greed! My Mother’s estate has still not been closed & the family drama continues. I pray other families won’t go through the same situation that my husband & I went through for wanting better care for my Mother. We were her caregivers for 16 years & 7 months prior to her death we were served with a Notice of Tresspass & were unable to visit with her & our telephones were blocked. I would also like to know if I should contact our Senator here in West Virginia to see if he would be of help in getting this legislation passed here in West Virginia? I think about my Mom everyday & her birthday is forthcoming on Novermber 3rd. Thank you for all you do & God Bless!

Angela E Phillips signed Take The Pledge 2019-01-16 15:30:52 -0800My husband & I were stopped by my brother & sister-in-law from seeing my 84 year old Mother & we were her caregivers for 16 years. My Mother passed away 05/30/2018 & we were unable to see her until she was at the funeral home & we reside 50 feet away. Once I placed my Mother in a nursing facility my sibling & sister-in-law turned against us because we were no longer able to care for her full-time. My Mother could not stay at the nursing facility because of rental property & was unable to obtain Medicaid in the State of WV. Law enforcement was of absolutley no help & the Guardianship battle lasted for more than a year & was VERY UGLY! My husband & I were served with a Notice of Trespass & the law stood with them. This can happen when a parent has a living estate. In the end the living estate was a futile mistake for my Mother and I! My advice is to sit down with a trusted estate planner to prevent this from happening & whatever you do I would NOT EVER advise getting your local Department of Human Services involved. This battle is certainly not over & my husband & I live with the lasting effects of this battle & loss of my Mother!2,440 pledges
Stop the Silence. Promote Awareness. Raise your Voice.
- 1 to 2 million Americans age 65+ report having been abused by a loved one or someone they depend on for care.
- Only 1 in 14 incidents of elder abuse are ever reported to authorities.
- Only 1 in 25 cases of financial exploitation are ever reported, meaning there may be at least 5 million financial abuse victims each year.
You can do your part to end the silent epidemic of elder abuse by taking the pledge to stand up against elder abuse. There are 10,000 people who are turning 65 each and every day (Pew Research Center), and we are rapidly approaching a time where nearly 50% of the population will be 65 or older. Together, we can end the silence of elder abuse by standing united and raising our voices against this growing problem.
Show your support in this movement, by pledging to end the silence, raising awareness in your community, and speaking up against elder abuse.

"I can't thank you enough for starting this conversation. Your dad would be so proud. He is smiling watching you change such an important part of wishes that I am sure were already planned. It breaks my heart for all the pain you endure to get something that should not even be a fight. You are inspirational and have helped me keep my head on straight knowing how hard you are working. Thank you from the bottom of my heart." R. Bove
"You are amazing! Keep up the fight for all those that can't." S. Benton
