Take The Pledge

Stop the Silence. Promote Awareness. Raise your Voice.

  • 1 to 2 million Americans age 65+ report having been abused by a loved one or someone they depend on for care.
  • Only 1 in 14 incidents of elder abuse are ever reported to authorities.
  • Only 1 in 25 cases of financial exploitation are ever reported, meaning there may be at least 5 million financial abuse victims each year.

You can do your part to end the silent epidemic of elder abuse by taking the pledge to stand up against elder abuse. There are 10,000 people who are turning 65 each and every day (Pew Research Center), and we are rapidly approaching a time where nearly 50% of the population will be 65 or older. Together, we can end the silence of elder abuse by standing united and raising our voices against this growing problem.

Show your support in this movement, by pledging to end the silence, raising awareness in your community, and speaking up against elder abuse.

My mother, Marjorie Ann Brown, has been placed from her home, where I took care of her, to a Nursing Home named, Windsor Cares of Cheviot Hills CA. 90034.

In just 2 months, pf living at Windsor Cares of Cheviot Hills, my mother now,

is malnourished, severly dehydrated and on reoccurring events has sustained,

a stage 4 bedsore on her low back and near her tail bone region. Numerous times, I have found the open sore left

Unprotected by possable feces and blood contamination called, Sepsis.

My step Sister, Dr. Patrice Spinner (with only a PhD in psychology), went behind our families back to have my mother sign her to be my mother’s POA (Power of Attorney). This POA allows.only for my hal sister to make medical decisions if or when my mom should ever lose her ability to make decision for herself.

IPrior to being placed into Windsor Cares, and not over medicated, which limits my mother’s ability to think or speak clearly. Prior to mymom being paced on these medications, both my mother and I were able to have normal conversations, however, my half sister Dr. Patrice Spinner with a POA began speaking for my mother and made irratical decisions prior to our mother’s. lack to be able to communicate her wants and desires.

A POA legally steps in when the person is unable to speak or make decisions regarding their own medical decisions.

My mom has been kept overly medicated prior to her meals, which has created a situation that prevents my mother to eat on her own, let alone drink water.

On June 4, 2019, I called the police who had called the Culver City Paramedics. The Parameducs took my mom to the E.R. of the Southetn California Hospital, where my mom was diagnosed with severe malnutrition, severe dehydration and placed with an IV for Antubiotics due to a wound she sustained to the left side of her scalp (cause of injury was unknown to the facility’ Windsor Cares), which had become infected. Within less then 12 hours, my step sister, Dr. Patrice Spinner, had called the hospital saying she had POA over my mom and to release her from the hospital immediately and she had my mom returned back to the hands of her abusers who do not Administer IVs, fluids or food for that matter. My mother inthe hospital voiced her desire to go home, however, her patient rights and civil rights were ignored by the 5th Fl Nursing Station. It is my family’s view point that my half sister, Patrice is not acting with my moms best interest in hand. The family has speculated a possible life insurance policy and we cannot find any ryhmn or reason that Patrice, is doing this to our mother.

Last week my half sister imposed restrictions on my sister, Cherylynn and I to have Only supervised visits with our mother and the visits could not be with our mother by her bedside. Visits I was told by Windsor Director, Jeff Huang and the Social Worker, Crystal, “had to take place, either, out in the lobby or in the recreation room but under no circumstance were we to enter our mothers bedroom.” In the recreation room, patients can be heard screaming or activities, such as Bingo, are being played with a worker who chooses to only speak in Spanish, which is a language my mother had never learned.

My mom is scarred and intimidated by the director, Jeff Huang and the Social Worker whose name is Crystal. While celebrating my mother’s upcoming 90th Birthday, my mom watched intensely while both the director and their Social worker, escorted me out of my mom’s room after speaking with Patrice who continues to have P.O.A. over my mother.

At Windsor Cares in Cheviot Hills, my mother has endured lack of social interaction, sneglect, signs of bruising/laceration to her body and the left side of her head, being overly medicated with a history of A. Fibrillations to her heart and the previous mentions of malnutrition and dehydration.

I try to visit my mom daily to see that she eats and recieves fluids, however, my half sister rarely visits for even one time per week; basically abandoning my mom who will turn 90 on July 13th. It is my family’s wish that our mother can live long enough with her abuser’s at Windsor Cares of Cheviot Hills, to reach her 90th Birthday next month.

When we asked to have our mother atleast, transferred to another nursing home, are request were denied per my mother’s P.O.A, my step sister, Dr. Patrice Spinner (who goes by the name, Dr. Patrice Spinner after receiving a PhD in Psychology).

It is very Ironic to my mother’s family that my sister is a Marriage, Family Therapist, seeing in how she has treated my mother, as if, she is waiting for my mother to die.

We are all born and We will all die at some point, however, why is she bringing on an early death for my mom by means of abuse? We’ have all asked her and she responds by hanging the phone up on us.

We admire Kerry Kasem’s tenacity, to what her family continues to have to endure to have her father, Casey Kasem buried at Forrest Lawn, so we have decided to share our families horrid journey of our mom.

Elder abuse is occurring more often than not in nursing homes and we refuse to turn a blind eye to the abuse in our Elder Society, that is endured on a daily basis. To my family, our mother’s life does matter, as does also, her roommates in this facility. Why is the government turning their head to the growing epidemic of The Baby Boomer’s within our nation? I want an Answer, don’t You?

In number’s we have strength, yet Alone, we only have tears and memories of our murdered loved ones~Marjorie M. Brown

Please stand up to this Abuse and let your voices be heard.

    With love.

    Marjorie M. Brown

The current system to help protect the elderly from abuse is terribly flawed and I applause your dedication to get it fixed.

I have for the last 7 yrs struggled as a daughter to see my father that my dads 3rd wife and my own sister has kept me from only seeing my father 3 to 5 times each year. I have never been able to celebrate privately my own birthday, nor fathers day nor my own fathers birthday. I have been kept from every Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays because they BULLY ME!! My sister and dads 3rd wife are jealous and very insecure of me because I speak my mind and also keep very good records, text messages, photos and videos of how I am treated trying to visit and see my father who has dementia. My situation is a MIRROR of yours and your siblings. so very sad.

My man of 22 years is currently isolated from me and all friends in AZ! He disowned his sons in court “Record” for thinking he was incompetent. No doctor ever declared him incompetent, yet a veteran has lost his freedom to a corrupt judicial process. Assigned guardians requested closure, APS closed the case against me after 18 months investigation, but kidnapped, taken out of state against his will, now he is Isolated, improper meds, no calls, no visitors allowed. Kids do not visit and he is kept in a 1star nursing home…can it get any worse? He is Clarence Leith illegally (no due process VOIDs all orders) being detained against his will in Golden Living Rehab, Olivia MN no rehab given, I had him walking and talking…we just want to be together, I love him with all my heart and soul and miss him terribly…Please help!

I regret that any financial support I am able to muster will be small at this time. God willing I can give more in the future. I normally give to a number of charities & Pro-Life causes. Having been homeless once, Dare To Care For The Homeless is one of my favorite. Now I need to focus on justice for my mother & making awareness of the GROWING problem of Elder Abuse. God bless all who are in this new social justice battle. [Pix uploaded is of me, mom, & daughter (holding bunny I bought as ‘pet therapy’ for mom) taken by my wife around Christmas.]
